Hallmarked Silver 2 handled Butter Dish with Frosted Glass insert, Chester 1922

Hallmarked Silver 2 handled Butter Dish with Frosted Glass insert, Chester 1922

A superb Hallmarked Silver 2 handled Butter Dish.

This has a Frosted Glass insert with star cut base. The Silver

body has 2 small plain handles and it sits on 4 small bun feet.

The hallmark comprises the makers mark 'S.I.Ld' - Stokes &

Ireland Ltd - William Henry Stokes & Arthur George Ireland, the

Lion passant mark, the town mark of Chester, and a letter 'W'

dating it to 1922. It measures 7cm (2 3/4 inches) in diameter,

excluding the handles and it stands 2.3cm (7/8 inch) tall.

This has a slight wobble when sat on a hard surface although

when on a table cloth doesn't. There is no damage to the Silver

body or the glass insert although the Silver would benefit from

further cleaning and the glass has a few small marks to the frosted

underneath surface. The hallmark is very clear.
